This is your vacation and we want you to do any and everything you want. These are just some ideas for you.
Day Trips –
1. A day at Rudesheim: cable car ride above the vineyards, walk to the Germania statue, chair lift ride down to the river, short river cruise back to Rudesheim, shop and eat in town, especially on the Drosselgasee alleyway. (About an hour and a half drive from home.)

2. Schwetzingen Castle Gardens: This “castle” is more of a palace. There are tours of the palace, but we’ve never taken one. We’ve always enjoyed just walking around the garden grounds. It’s very relaxing and the landscaping and “temples” are impressive. (About a 20-minute drive from home.)

3. Heidelberg Castle: Okay, this is a must. We can tour the castle, check out the views of downtown Heidelberg and the river, then walk along the pedestrian zone (Hauptstrasse) and have lunch at an outside cafe. (About a 20-minute drive from home.)

4. Rothenberg (ob der Tauber): This town is cool because it’s still so authentic looking as a medieval town. You can walk the old walls that still surround the town and overlook the valley. The buildings are pretty and there are a lot of good souvenir and authentic craft shops. (About an hour and a half drive from home.)

5. Triberg/Black Forest: Home to the largest (163 meters) waterfall in Germany and “real” cuckoo clocks carved by the Master Carving Club. It’s not a big town, but it is a nice walk up to the waterfall and the souvenir shops are cool. (About a 2-hour drive from home.)

3-Day trip to Garmisch – Now, our favorite place in Germany is Garmisch. It’s about a 4-hour drive, so it would be better to make it a 2-, or even 3-day trip. There are beautiful natural wonders like the Partnach Gorge, Eibsee (lake), and Zugspitze mountain. Neuschwanstein Castle (Walt Disney’s inspiration for Cinderella’s castle) is also on the way to Garmisch, so it would be easy to see that, too. Neuschwanstein Castle is the bigger, more impressive tourist attraction, but Linderhof Palace is cool, too; it’s where King Ludwig actually more of his time. Val is searching the internet to make reservations such in case.
